What Exactly I Do

Doing everything makes you a jack of all trades, master of none.

I make my living as a SEO expert and web developer in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It’s a profession that suits me and provides dividends for my clients. They come to me because they want to rise in the engines engines; they want to get more traffic to their website, and this more sales. I’ve been studying and doing SEO for 12 years now with great results. (If you’re seeking someone to handle your email marketing, or build an app for you, I can refer you.) SEO is all I focus on, so I can keep myself concentrated just on that one thing for your company.

My early years and how I got started.

Pittsburgh SEO
I caught the programming bug early – actually in elementary school. My parents had moved us from Washington State when I was very small because I couldn’t handle the moist humidity there. We landed in the desert – in Golden Valley, Arizona, a very small town about a two-hour drive from Las Vegas, and about 30-45 minutes from Kingman, the nearest town that actually had a public school.

Not wanting to commute that far everyday, my parents decided to home school me and my brothers when we reached school age. I was fortunate to learn many non-traditional subjects, including programming. By 10 or 11, I was familiar with GW Basic and a number of other programming languages, and by 12, I had programmed my first project on my own: a simple calculator.

Where my love of being a nerd came from.

My programming education continued as a teen, this time, mostly self-taught. I learned how the software behind the computer games I played worked. I got into command prompts, file directories, and programming MySpace pages for my friends. My work on MySpace taught me how to navigate web interfaces, and soon, when I was about 20 years old, I was programming websites, first for myself, and then for my friends (and their friends) who were asking for my help and expertise.
In 2007, I formed what would later be called Joseph Stevenson (a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania SEO Firm), got my first paying client, and embarked on a tech career. It became my job to build stellar sites for my clients, get their sites found on the search engines, and gradually work our way to #1 for the search terms we had targeted. I was having fun and my clients were pleased.12 years later, here I am in the Pittsburgh SEO market, learning more each day, and cultivating great working relationships with each business owners I serve.

I believe business should be earned, not expected.

It’s my intention to tell you a little about what to expect when you are looking to select a top-quality SEO firm in Pittsburgh that will help you meet your marketing and sales goals. I just want to say that I like to keep it simple; I like to do your SEO right the first time. And, I’m transparent with my clients. I’ve learned that one needs to make good on ones promises to earn another’s trust. Trust cannot be expected. Some of the other Pittsburgh SEO firms want to get you locked into a long-term SEO contract and do the least amount of work possible.

I’ve seen firsthand how they’ll outsource much of the behind-the-scenes work that is so crucial to making your SEO work magnificently. So, when you’re shopping for a SEO company in Pittsburgh, ask about this all too common practice. After all, you want the company you hire to take responsibility and be accountable for the SEO results you’re after. I give my word you won’t see me handle your SEO work this way. While I don’t claim to be the only SEO agency in Pittsburgh that is honest and hard-working, but I am one of the best around. In will do the consistent, smart, and time-consuming work necessary to improve your website rankings.

Pittsburgh SEO

If you don’t do things right, don’t do them at all.

Another trick that some of the the SEO companies in the Pittsburgh area will try and pull is posting a whole lot of content early on, trying to prove they can get your rankings to rise, and then that’s it. After they post some blogs and get some back links, your rankings may go up temporarily, but there will be no long term gain.

Inside, we stick with it. For SEO to be successful, one must keep the process moving forward all the time. It’s this consistency that gives you lasting SEO results. You don’t just want to be on the top of Google for one week; if you’re like my other clients, you want to stay up there.

After a decade, I’ve developed a proven 3-step SEO process that works like a charm:

1. Assess and improve your current site. Get it ready for increased traffic;

2. Create top-quality blog, social media, and press release copy and post it consistently on your site and out on the web. Our objective is for this content to get picked up and shared, and as a result, the search engines will index more of your content and your rankings will go up.

3. Repeat #2 again and again; manage the process and tweak it as we go.

You see, at Joseph Stevenson, we don’t take short cuts. Any firm that recommends something another approach than what I outlined above, either doesn’t know how to sustain SEO results, or is trying to pull your leg. Ouch!
