Running Your Business with Discipline not Passion

When I started working for myself at 16 it wasn’t about passion. It was about money and that’s it. Why else would a 16 year old get up at 4am to go clean windows in another town freezing his fingers off?

Oftentimes we are too soft with ourselves and each other. We preach about having passion in our work and how if you love what you do you’ll never work a day in your life.

I like the sentiment but really do you know any good people who have never worked a day in their life? Successful people we admire are usually successful because they worked extremely hard for it, and they weren’t stoked every day to do what they had to.

If you are a seasoned entrepreneur or just getting started, learn to run your business with discipline not passion. Get the things done every day you need to not want to. Eventually when the success comes you’ll feel that passion because you created the passion instead of waiting for it to drop out of the sky on you.
