It’s Never a HELL YEAH

Hello my friend!

I bet you’ve heard:

“If it’s not a hell yes, it’s a hell no”.

I first heard this 10 years ago from Tim Ferris. The idea is that when you’re investigating a path forward in life/business etc. approach the decision being made based on your feeling of “hell yeah” or “hell no”.

It’s not a bad idea right? Who wants to pursue something they aren’t very passionate about. Or even worse something they only are doing for financial gain vs. enjoyment.

Here’s the other side of the coin though.

Everything worthwhile is usually not a massive “Hell Yeah” (insert your favorite cuss word).

Most of the time we timidly work towards something with hopes it pays off but not knowing for sure if it will.

This podcast and newsletter for me are a form of that. I hope like crazy people enjoy it and that it helps them with their own frustrations and anxieties, but it could very well fail. If it does do well and take off, I can’t say that I had a massive burst of passion and an all in dive when starting it.

I can say though that I love it and would love to do it for a long time. I enjoy talking about things that are important to me, and that have shaped my life.

In the end though there are millions of podcasts, more newsletters and a lot of very talented people out there trying to get your attention.

My chances of success are well, kinda low.

I think that’s the point though.

To me embracing the unknown and just going for something I enjoy is worth the risk. It’s really not worthwhile without the risk and for sure not as fun or enjoyable.

If we know at the beginning that something is going to be amazing, it really has no luster, no chance of ups and downs, and no real risk.

I want a life of risk, fun, excitement and yes failure.

If I take that road I’m bound to have some pain but I know for sure there will be some major gains in one way or another.

So with your current ambitions, quit waiting for that amazing “HELL YES” experience. Most likely it won’t come. If it does good for you, but so many end up in analysis paralysis waiting for their bolt of lightning, growing old and regretting their chance not taken.

Don’t be that guy/gal.

Believe that all of the unknowns and worries are a part of the process of doing something amazing, and then go take that leap.

With love,

Joseph
