“When Everyone’s Super… No One Will Be”: A Critique On A.I.

Joseph:

So, you know I dabble in art. Well… dabble’s a loose term. Point being it’s really, really frustrating that all of my art and everybody else’s art has been just indexed and essentially stored so they can just create what’s called “new art”, but all it is just reinterpretations of other art that’s already been created. So to me, generative AI is just a fancy word for just ripping off other people’s work.

Zach:

You know the movie “The Incredibles”? You know, when Syndrome is talking about his grand plan, how he’s gonna sell all his gizmos to everybody, and he says that line that Broc loves. He’s like, When everybody’s super, nobody is super. yeah. So I have that kind of same mindset when it comes to AI as like as a web developer, is somebody who likes to write, somebody likes to do music, when suddenly somebody who has no prior experience in any of these fields can all just suddenly do things like that. But it all comes out kinda subpar. then nobody is good at it and it just gives everything a stigma in general.

Joseph:

It kind of- it’s really him showing how much talent he doesn’t have, right? Cause he’s just like, and when I’m done having my fun, and everybody is super, you know what that means about you know, he’s like, No one will be. It’s like basically everyone will be a loser like me instead of me just learning how to be super.

Joseph:

I did see in the news this morning that people are throwing like Molotov cocktails and things at it. So clearly we’re not the only ones who are like, ah this sucks.
