DuckDuckGo installs are up 30% as users reject being force-fed Google’s AI search. We’ve done it. What browser do you guys use? I still use Google. My wife is an avid DuckDuckGo user. She’s always like “Why are you still using Google?” But I think I still use Google only so that I just have a pulse on what it’s looking like.
The thing is though, I’ve been getting a little bit antsy about my internet profile. So I’m like, “first step is just use a different browser”. Google is just the best browser.
DuckDuckGo is a bad browser, in my opinion. Brave is better than DuckDuckGo search results wise. So it’s like, it’s so hard for me. Sometimes I’ll still use Google because I’m looking at DuckDuckGo or Brave and I can’t find what I’m looking for. And I’m like, I know if I look this up on Google, it’s going to give me what I want.
They just have better results. I don’t think there’s an argument to be made. But, here’s the thing that a lot of people don’t realize: you can still use Google search on any browser. You just go to google.com. All you lose is the URL bar search functionality. You can still go to Google and search in other browsers.
They can still store and use all that aggregate data. But as far as tracking, the browser itself can prevent them from building a profile on you because they don’t know who you are. You’re basically an incognito user to them if you’re not using the Chrome browser.
Funny story: I have a friend that I was helping with some IT stuff. He has Google Chrome, but he is using Yahoo as his search engine. He didn’t realize his default search engine is set to Yahoo, and that just set me off in a laughing fit. And then somehow, after a little while, we even ended up on Bing.
The moral of the story is, if you’re interested in internet privacy, the best browsers to use are going to be Duck Duck Go and Brave. If you want the best of both worlds, use google.com inside of one of those browsers. This will give you both the privacy and the best results. Happy searching!
